Comprising the residential community either side of the Upper Richmond Road West between Putney and Richmond, (East) Sheen is a vibrant community enviably served by excellent local schools, shops, pubs and restaurants – and not to forget a lovely big Waitrose! Yet one can be amidst the bustle of a busy London high street one minute, and be circumnavigating Richmond Park on your bike the next, so intertwined is Sheen with vast expanses of the park.

The area between the Upper Richmond Road and the park is known as Parkside, and contains some wonderful pubs tucked away amongst the attractive period houses that characterize these tree-lined streets. As if Richmond Park wasn’t enough, the area also boasts Sheen Common and Palewell Park.

Transport-wise, a historic milestone on Sheen’s main crossroads (where Sheen Lane meets the Upper Richmond Road) marks the 10 mile mark to the centre of London, although these days regular trains from Mortlake overground station cover the ground in no time.

Simply put, Sheen is one of London’s loveliest and most family-friendly neighbourhoods, combining city-living with all the charm of a more rural existence. It may not be an excuse to invest in that new Land Rover, but 2500 acres of glorious parkland on your doorstep is certainly justification to buy some wellington boots!

“Having been brought up in Barnes, I have known and loved South West London all my life. When we were expecting our second child we knew we wanted to move to an area where we could find convenience, comfort and community all in one area and Sheen seemed to tick all those boxes. The high street, pubs, cafes and nearby expanse of Richmond Park make it an ideal place for a young family not to mention the wealth of good schools. Having moved to the area six months ago now we couldn’t feel more at home and are looking forward to the years ahead in such a happy and friendly area. The neighbours have been so welcoming and we genuinely already can’t imagine living anywhere else.”
